Young adults aged 18 to 24 years old dominate around 39% of active Instagram users in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to understand the way couples use Instagram in developing their romantic relationships and in reducing their uncertainty at the initiating stage of relationship development. The method used in this research was qualitative with a phenomenological research approach. The researchers interviewed two romantic couples, young adults who were active Instagram users - they log in daily and actively engage in the platform. This study has shown that Instagram has replaced Facebook as the 1st information seeking tool and as the main platform for doing initial approach before face-to-face interaction in young adults. The tangible difference lies in how the stranger gets acquittanced on Instagram at the initiating stage and how they show off their affection of ‘in relationship’ at the bonding stage. Further, the result has indicated that Instagram is the most common means of passive uncertainty reduction strategy at the initiating stage of relationship development, followed by interactive strategy and last is active strategy.</p> Aqila Sheila Zhafira Dindin Dimyati Aditya Kumar Shukla Copyright (c) 2022 ASPIRATION Journal 2021-11-30 2021-11-30 2 2 127 152 10.56353/asp.v2i2.29 ACTION RESEARCH FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF MOBILE AND SOCIAL MEDIA JOURNALISM STUDIES <p>Mobile phone and social media are very inherent in human life today. These device and platform then become<span style="text-decoration: line-through;">s</span> a tool to help or facilitate human life, including working activities. One of them is in the field of journalism.&nbsp; This is replicated in the journalism curriculum at universities. This study uses action research method to evaluate mobile and social media journalism class at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.This study aims to know the level of understanding and ability of students related to mobile and social media journalism and the final result or evaluation of the course. This research uses survey and in-depth interview for collecting the data. 87 students took a part in this study; then the result was explored by conducting in-depth interviews with unique&nbsp; samples of student. The result, students who have taken the mobile and social media journalism course already have the knowledge and ability to use mobile devices and social media platform. The challenge is when they use<span style="text-decoration: line-through;">s</span> a mobile device in the news production process and in the news editing process because of the characteristics of the device (small screen). Knowledge of the specifications of each editing application is very helpful as a mobile journalist. The government also responded to the Covid-19 virus’s entry into Indonesia by issuing health, social, and economic policies. Reporting on the government’s actions is undoubtedly one of the Indonesian media’s objectives. is one of the media outlets that publish news about the government’s actions. The seven news articles published by in March 2020 are the subject of this study. This research employs a qualitative approach and analyzes data using Robert N. Entman’s framing model analysis. According to Robert Entman’s analysis, news framing can be viewed in two dimensions: issue selection and aspect highlighting. By analyzing seven news articles published by using Robert N. At first, people were happy to not be having to commute, spending more time at home and having extra hours to do interesting activities not related to work. But that did not last long. Approximately six months later indicate changes to mental states. &nbsp;The aim of this research is to understand the relations of remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic to mental health and identify activities that help to bridge mental health issues.&nbsp; Conceptual thinking of the research is based on social networks, social relations, lifestyle preference, social media hashtags.&nbsp; Research method uses social network analytics based on and Gephi tools to determine the depth of the relations.&nbsp;&nbsp; The result states that remote work has relations to mental health, in which the wellbeing of individuals relates to the way they work, which hence alter the use of time to do other useful activities.</em></p> Nia Sarinastiti Ario Bimo Jeffrey Cole Copyright (c) 2022 ASPIRATION Journal 2022-03-30 2022-03-30 2 2 199 219 10.56353/asp.v2i2.40 REPRESENTATION OF INDONESIAN CULTURE IN “ONLY IN INDONESIA” VIDEO BY LASTDAY PRODUCTION <p>Culture can be formed from habits acquired by humans as members of society. Indonesia has so many ethnic groups and produces different habits. From the habits carried out by the community; it is not uncommon to have bad habits and unique habits. This is what makes one of the videos with a cultural theme that is considered satire through one of the social media platforms, which is Youtube, entitled "Only in Indonesia" by LASTDAY Production, interesting to study. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis which focuses on the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth; this study aims to determine the representation of Indonesian culture through the scenes in the Youtube video. The results show that there are five of the seven elements of universal culture, namely, social organization systems, technology and equipment systems, knowledge systems, arts, and religion.
